My dad sends this fascinating article about dogs on anti-anxiety medication, and it impressively goes into the basic question of anthropomorphism as well as telling the story of a few individual dogs to flesh out the controversy nicely.

Ж-Men...but not the ones you might expect!
This week LJ Russia launched Ж-Men, a new comedy series about superheroes, inspired by the LJ communities dedicated to superheros, comics and cartoons. The title's "Ж" comes from ЖЖ, the nickname for LiveJournal in Russia.
Ж-Men's script is written by a group of LJ enthusiasts who also happen to be television professionals. Who knew? Following the premiere, five more episodes will be broadcast over the next two weeks. We hope you find the series fresh and enjoyable.
This is, of course, an experiment for LiveJournal. As always, we'd love to hear what you think!

I ran across a delicious haiku today, and it reminds us all to back up our files. It's simple, actually. Only back up the files you want to keep. Everything else will be lost, eventually. It reminds me of what my dad said to me about motorcycling when I was 19. He was aghast at motorcyclists in flip-flops and bare hands and t-shirts. "You don't have to wear gloves on all of your fingers," he said, "...just the ones you want to keep."
A file that big?
It might be very useful.
But now it is gone.

Driving home from the grocery last night, I had:
• Two pounds fresh salmon
• Five dark chocolate bars
• One bottled aged tequila
It's a good life.

I finished a major overhaul of my website. I'm really excited about it.

Asking a nurse on my unit about wound care (I'm all scraped up), I learned that we're not supposed to apply hydrogen peroxide to wounds except right at first. Later, it kills the regrowing cells. (Saline, or extremely mild soap are appropriate alternatives.) News to me. Volleyball last night was very satisfying until the cuts on my palms starting opening up, and then I had to go home.
In far more important news, the girl who I'm crazy about got permission to spend more than four weeks living with me starting 7/28, and has a plane ticket and everything. I'm tempted to take off work just to pick her up. I already got her a desk (she'll work from home) and a dresser and made room in my closet. I try to follow her example and not have expectations -- live in the moment -- but I feel genuinely optimistic and moved and happy, and that feels good. It's real interesting to listen to us talk about our relationship: to paraphrase, I might say something like, "we continue to progress in communication, and there is a remarkable balance between the serious talks and the lighter playful enjoyment of the day-to-day," and she nods but says quietly that her perspective is better summed by "this feels good [so I will keep doing it]."
